Rebates Incentives and Financing

Canada Greener Homes Grant

If you intend to start an energy-efficient renovation or have completed an EnerGuide home evaluation since December 1, 2020, you may be eligible to receive a grant of up to $5,600 from the Federal Government.

The Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program (HER+), delivered in partnership with the Canada Greener Homes Grant and Enbridge Gas, has been an overwhelming success. This program has facilitated a reduction in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for over 100,000 households in Ontario and saw a reduction of Green House Gasses by 26%.  Given the high demand and the number of households that have participated, the program has successfully filled all available spots earlier than expected and has been halted indefinitely.

For other funding options, explore the Better Homes Ottawa Loan Program.

Before starting any renovations or upgrades, you must have an initial energy audit performed by an REA (Registered Energy Advisor). Your REA will help you prioritize potential qualifying upgrades, measure your results, and submit everything to Greener Homes for your incentives! Your initial energy audit includes a comprehensive energy audit report, an ENERGUIDE label for your home as well as expert recommendations from your energy advisor.

Once your initial energy audit has been completed, you can then proceed with your planned upgrades.

Please Note: Any work started before the initial audit or after the final audit will not qualify for any rebates.

Grants are available for the following upgrades, and may total up to $5000:

  • Home insulation
    • Attic/Ceiling
    • Exterior walls
    • Exposed floors
    • Basement/Foundation
    • Crawlspace
  • Air Sealing
  • Windows/Doors
  • Smart Thermostat
  • Air Source Heat Pump/Cold Climate Heat Pump
  • Ground Source Heat Pump
  • Domestic Hot Water Heat Pump
  • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panels
  • Resiliency measures
    • Solar PV-connected home battery
    • Roofing membrane
    • Foundation water-proofing
    • Moisture proofing crawl space floor, walls and headers

Once your upgrades are complete and you have notified your Service Organization, your energy advisor will return to perform your post energy audit. Your post energy audit includes a comprehensive energy audit report and an updated ENERGUIDE label for your home.

In addition to the $5000 retrofit grant, you can also receive a grant of up to $600 towards the cost of the EnerGuide Home Evaluations if you complete at least 1 upgrade that is eligible and recommended by your registered energy advisor. Both pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide Evaluations are required to receive the grants.

Please note that apartment condo units within larger buildings typically do not qualify. Eligible property types include:

  • Single and semi-detached houses
  • Row housing
  • Townhomes
  • All-season cottages
  • Mobile homes on a permanent foundation
  • Permanently-moored floating homes
  • Mixed use buildings (residential portion only)
  • Small multi-unit residential building (three storeys or less, and less then 600m2)
